Ducati announces name of 2012 superbike

Ducati has announced its 2012 superbike will be named the Ducati 1199 Panigale, and it will be unveiled during the EICMA International Motorcycle Show, which will be held Nov. 10-13 in Milan, Italy.

The bike’s name pronounced “Pan-ee-gah-lee”, and it breaks with Ducati’s superbike tradition with the addition of the name of its 1199cc engine capacity (referred to as eleven-nine-nine), which makes a significant and warm association to its historic roots in the Borgo Panigale area of Bologna.

The 1199 Panigale will first race in the 2012 FIM Superstock Championship before debuting in World Superbike in 2013. Ducati has released at video of the motorcycle at www.ducatiusa.com and on Ducati Motor Holding’s official YouTube channel.
