Dealers report marginal gains in August

August profit margins at several dealerships were up slightly from the same month in 2010, and many dealers who spoke to Powersports Business editors Dave McMahon and Liz Hochstedler over the past two days feel “cautiously optimistic” about sales in September. “It’s a minute margin that we’re up, but it’s going to be slow and steady. We don’t look for any spikes,” was one description.

Service is also “plugging along — we’re up from last August,” according to another dealer. Service department managers reported an influx of work on ATVs and cruisers.

Powersports dealers are encouraged to take five minutes to complete the Powersports Business Market Data Book online survey that can be found by clicking click here. The deadline is Monday, Sept. 5.
