Motorcycle sales up in first quarter

Motorcycle sales were up in all categories, except off-road, for the first quarter of 2011, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC).

Scooters have seen the largest increase, up about 50 percent over the first quarter of 2010. On-road unit sales were up 7 percent over the year ago quarter, while the dual sport segment jumped 24 percent.

Off-road vehicles did not fair as well in the latest report. ATV sales were down 16 percent for the quarter, while off-highway motorcycle sales decreased 6 percent.
