Yellowstone snowmobile traffic up slightly
Snowmobile traffic in Yellowstone National Park was up slightly this past winter, which the National Park Service attributed to heavy snowfall, according to a press release.
The number of snowmobile visitors was up 2 percent over the 2009-’10 season, with 22,691 riders hitting the park this past season. An average of 194 snowmobilers visited the park daily, while 289 rode on the park’s peak day.
This past winter, the park operated under a temporary winter use plan, which limited use to up to 318 commercially guided, best available technology sleds and 78 snowcoaches a day. That two-year plan expired at the end of this season. New regulations are expected to be released before the 2011-’12 riding season.
