Metric motorcycle exports to U.S. decrease about 40 percent

For the first half of 2009, metric motorcycle manufacturers shipped 58,482 units to the United States, a 37.5 percent drop from the prior-year period, according to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

North America as a whole had an even greater decrease, as almost 64,000 units were exported, which is down 38 percent compared to the first half of last year.

For September alone, exports to the United States didn’t have as great of decline, as 4,897 units were shipped, which is down about 12 percent compared to the same month in 2008.
