Sept. 7, 2009 – Yamaha N. American sales, inventory decrease

Yamaha’s net sales in its second quarter decreased 33 percent from the year-ago sales, the company reported. That includes a nearly
24 percent drop in motorcycle sales in North America and a 51 percent drop in its overall power product sales, which includes ATVs and UTVs.
Even with these sales declines, Henio Arcangeli Jr., Yamaha’s Motorsports Group president, said the company has increased market share in certain areas. “But the best news,” Arcangeli said in a press release, “is we now feel strongly that both our and our dealer partners’ inventories are becoming more aligned with actual marketplace demand, and this will position us very strongly for the future.”
For its first six months, Yamaha has sold 75,000 motorcycles in North America, a decline of 17.5 percent. Yamaha said its new YZF-RI and R6 are now among the industry’s top sellers.
Worldwide, Yamaha’s overall motorcycle sales dropped 8 percent to 2.6 million units.
Yamaha’s earnings report does not indicate how many ATVs and side-by-sides it has sold, but the first-half report shows four-wheel
North American sales at more than $240 million, a decline of 62 percent from the year-ago period. PSB
