Are motorcycles part of “cash for clunkers” extension?
The “cash for clunkers” incentive program passed by the Senate Thursday will not directly benefit the motorcycle industry, although that could happen in the future.
That was the message from the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC), which in a press release noted Congressional staff would not consider including motorcycles in the initial “cash for clunkers” legislation because of the difficulty they were having in getting support for just the car program.
“However, now that the car program has proven so popular, perhaps there will be a push for continuation,” the MIC press release stated. “If so, it will provide an additional opportunity to advocate for motorcycle inclusion.”
The MIC also noted there are additional “clunker” bills pending, including one that includes motorcycles selling between $7,000 and $20,000.
