BRP cuts back on 2009 production, lays off employees

BRP has announced production cutbacks, layoffs and a company restructuring in the wake of the current difficult economic conditions.

The privately held manufacturer said it was reducing production by 20 percent in the coming year as well laying off hundreds of workers.

“These are very difficult decisions to make but we must take appropriate preventive measures considering the seriousness of the situation,” BRP CEO Jose Boisjoli said in a press release.

BRP will eliminate 550 “white-collar” jobs over the next nine months. Previously the company laid off 370 “blue-collar” employees and another 430 have received temporary layoff notices in the fourth quarter.
