Dealer survey: Harley-Davidson U.S. sales down 4-6 percent
Harley-Davidson retail sales have dipped 4-6 percent compared to the year-ago period, according to a survey of 40 franchised dealers conducted by Wachovia Capital Markets.
The survey also found 30 percent of the dealers in the nationwide report reported sales were down by 10 percent or more, Wachovia reported Dec. 17. On the other hand, 17.5 percent of the surveyed dealers said retail sales were either flat or have increased in comparison to last year.
The survey also found more dealers view their inventory as heavy compared to a year ago. An increasing number of those dealers are in the West, Southwest and Southeast, the survey found.
