Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. division unveils natural gas engine
Kawasaki Gas Turbines-Americas (KGT-A), a division of Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A., has launched a high efficiency natural gas-fueled reciprocating engine, the company said in a statement Dec. 11.
The new gas engine produces an overall efficiency — the measure of actual, useful energy derived from fuel input — of 85.3 percent. This represents a combination of recovered energy from engine exhaust steam, cooling water of the turbo charger, engine cooling water and electrical output.
“This marks the culmination of several years of development by Kawasaki engineers, as we’ve strived to create a power source that will serve as a beacon for everyone concerned with meeting tomorrow’s environmental standards,” said Hiro Hatsumura, KGT-A president.
This new unit is available in four different models, ranging from 12 to 18 cylinders; all with a 300mm cylinder bore.
