New unit sales not matching 2006, MIC report shows

Sales of new powersports vehicles continue to lag behind last year, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC).

Overall sales of MIC-reporting companies trail 2006 by 8.2 percent, according to retail sales data through September.

The biggest declines have come in off-road motorcycles (15.1 percent) and ATVs (11 percent), according to the MIC data released today.

The industry’s largest segment, on-road motorcycles, also is down, with new unit sales lagging 4.6 percent behind last year.
