New group wants to aggressively promote snowmobiling

A group from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (UP) has banded together to call attention to snowmobiling.

The Snowmobile Olympus committee formed last week and includes DeeGee Pawlicki from the Western UP Convention & Visitors Bureau; organizer Don Bertels; Kim Kolesar, from the Ironwood Area Chamber of Commerce; Don Perry, Tim Pertile and Scott Erickson, from the City of Ironwood; and Steve Thomas, from the Gogebic County Fair Board.

The Snowmobile Olympus aims to create the “Sturgis of snowmobiling.” The committee is meeting every week to bring the idea to reality.

A weeklong Sled Fest is planned for the UP’s Gogebic and Ontonagon counties in early January 2008, with different snowmobile events in locations throughout the two-county area throughout the week.
