March 12, 2007 – EICMA organizer invests in Asia event

The company that organizes the International Bicycle & Motorcycle Industry Trade Show in Milan, Italy, has announced a new show in the Asian market and released dates for EICMA 2007.
EICMA Spa will acquire 50 percent of the new company Bike Asia Pte. Ltd., which was founded to organize and manage an International Bicycle and Motorcycle Tradeshow in Singapore starting in spring 2008. Bike Asia Ltd. predicts a conservative sales estimate of 110,000 square feet of net exhibit space for the first edition in 2008.
According to the Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industry estimates, out of the 40 million two-wheeled motor vehicles that were sold worldwide in 2004, 29 million (85 percent) were sold in Asia. Between 2001 and 2006, powersports sales increases registered at 60.6 percent, compared to only 3 percent in Europe and 18 percent in North America.
EICMA 2007 will run from Nov. 6-11. Organizers plan to continue the same formula they say characterized last year’s event. It is no longer a show, but a major event comprised of three separate parts: the show, targeted at trade and consumers; Motolive, targeted at enthusiasts; and the International Forum on two-wheeled motor vehicles, which targets the industrial culture.
