Honda seeks to bolster sales by sharpening focus on four areas – November 13, 2006

Honda Motor Co. sold 10.271 million motorcycles and had consolidated revenue of 9.907 trillion yen ($12.5 billion) in fiscal 2006, which ended March 31. This year, the company hopes to sell 10.710 million units and achieve consolidated revenue of 11 trillion yen ($13.9 billion).
Now in the second year of a mid-term business plan launched in April 2005, Honda has been working toward its goals by sharpening its focus on four key areas: research and development, production efficiency, sales efficiency and product quality.
“It is under these circumstances that Honda will strengthen its corporate structure quickly and flexibly to meet the requirements of our customers and society and the changes in its business environment,” Takeo Fukui, Honda president and chief executive officer, said in a review of recent financial results.
Research and Development
Honda plans to enhance the creativity in its advanced technologies and products, and is working to create new value-added products that meet specific needs in various markets around the world.
Product Efficiency
Aiming to increase its supply capabilities, the company is working to establish efficient and flexible production systems and expand production capacity at its global production bases.
Sales Efficiency
Honda continues to make efforts to expand product lines through the innovative use of IT and to upgrade sales and service structure in order to respond to unique markets across the globe.
Product Quality
Finally, the company is in the process of upgrading quality control by enhancing coordination between multiple departments, including R&D, purchasing, production, sales and service. PSB
