Indian to Concentrate on Product Before Developing Dealer Network

Indian Motorcycle Company expects to spend the next 12 months developing the new Indian Chief before concentrating on building a new dealer network, said Indian Chairman Stephan Julius.

“We’ve got to focus on getting the product right,” Julius said in an interview with Powersports Business, noting he has no firm timeline of when the product development will be finished. “When we have got that product right, then we will start focusing on marketing, sales, distribution, or what I call the fun part of the business.”

Julius is the managing director of Stellican Limited, the London-based private equity firm that bought the Indian trademark.

The company has already announced it intends to show a new Indian Chief in the second half of 2007. It also has bought an 11-acre manufacturing facility in Kings Mountain, N.C., to build the new Indian.
