Connecticut mulls passenger bill
It may be common practice for parents to allow their children to sit in front of them while riding a PWC, but a bill under consideration in Connecticut may soon boot kids to the rear.
Arguing that the practice is simply not safe, Connecticut lawmakers sent a bill to Gov. M. Jodi Rell that would prohibit anyone from riding in front of the operator of a PWC. Those riding behind may soon face new rules as well as the legislation also seeks to prohibit any passenger from riding behind the operator unless he or she is able to securely hold on the person in front or grab the watercraft’s built-in handholds. Passengers also will be required to keep both feet in the footwells to maintain balance while under operation.
Alladio Featured In New Book
Shawn Alladio, erstwhile PWC rescuer and founder of K38 Water Safety, has found some of her recent exploits captured in print in the new book “Surfing’s Greatest Misadventures: Dropping In On The Unexpected” by Paul Diamond and Tyler McMahon.
Alladio, who handles water safety at many of the premier surf contests in the world, recounts numerous dramatic rescues that took place during the Red Bull Big Wave Africa surfing contest in 2001. During the event, Alladio made more than 60 rescues, including the dramatic save of Ian Armstrong.
