INTERMOT Reveals New Product, Trends

Powersports vehicle and parts, garments and accessories consumers, dealers, distributors and manufacturers assembled in Munich, Germany, Sept. 15-19, for the 4th annual International Motorcycle and Scooter Fair (INTERMOT).
The event, held every two years alternating with EICMA in Milan, Italy, boasts more than 110,000 sq. meters of exhibition space and plays host to approximately 1,114 businesses from more than 40 countries. Organizers said they expected more than 150,000 visitors representing 180 countries to attend the five-day event.
The most prominent displays were those from vehicle manufacturers that revealed new motorcycle product. OEMs such as Aprilia, BMW, Buell, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, MZ, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha were among the companies attracting the largest crowds.
One of the most notable trends for 2005 is the continued expansion of “Naked” bike offerings. BMW uncorked a naked bike it calls the K 1200 R, based on the K 1200 S sportbike available in the U.S. as of January; Erik Buell attended to introduce his XB9SX Lightning CityX; Ducati unveiled a Monster S2R, available in November, and as a Dark model in January; KTM revealed the Venom, a variation of its RC8, planned for the 2007 season; Triumph introduced a new 128 bhp Speed Triple; MZ showed what it calls the MZ 1000 SF (Street Fighter); and Yamaha officially unveiled its production MT-01.
INTERMOT organizers said countries most represented at the event included Italy, China, Taiwan, Pakistan, Spain, France and the UK. Still, representatives of U.S. based distributors Parts Unlimited, Tucker Rocky Distributing, Global Motorsports, Motorsport Aftermarket Group, Inc., National Cycle, Western Power Sports, and White Brothers all were in attendance, as were suppliers including AirHawk, Inc., Cometic Gaskets, Durablue, Dynojet research, EMGO International, Evader, Fly Racing, Fog City, Go-Ped, Handy Industries, Jardine Peformance Products, Kasea, K&N, Kuryakyn, Kryptonite, Genuine Motor Scooter, Pivot Works/Hot Cams, One Industries, Outerwears, PowerMadd, Progressive Suspension, RaceTech, SCOTT, SIXSIXONE, Smith Sport Optic, Vance & Hines, SuperTrapp, Warn Industries and Wiseco, among others.
