AlphaSports to introduce GT650

It seems everyone offers a naked bike, and now AlphaSports Motors of Augusta, Ga., says it too is completing the final steps necessary to begin importation and sales of an unfaired model branded as a GT650, a unit representing the first foray into the middleclass market for Korean manufacturer Hyosung.
An off-shoot of the Hyosung Corporation, one of the top 10 conglomerates in South Korea with an annual turnover in excess of $4 billion, Hyosung Motors & Machinery Inc. was founded as a motorcycle manufacturer in 1978; entered into a technical tie-up in 1979 to produce Suzuki models for some Asian markets; and, in 1986, established its own R&D center to develop models under the Hyosung brand.
Hyosung insists the GT650 to be of a proprietary design, yet the bike – also recently introduced in Europe and Australia – oozes Suzuki-influenced styling, and is built around a 647cc water-cooled V-twin engine undoubtedly designed in Hamamatsu, Japan.
Producing a claimed 79hp at 9000rpm, the eight-valve DOHC 90° V-twin features dual Mikuni downdraft carburetors, a Euro2-approved secondary air intake system and a low restriction stainless steel exhaust.
The GT650 has a claimed dry weight of 180 kg. The front suspension, an upside-down fork, is equipped with compression and rebound adjustment, and the rear suspension’s tension and damping position are adjustable. The bike is outfitted with a double disk front and single disc rear brake system, and it runs on a 120/60-17 55W tire up front and a 160/60-17 69W in the back.
AlphaSports is represented by dealers in every state and is now also expanding to Canada, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean. To learn more about the GT650, call 877/543-7288. psb
