Nelson’s attracts 15,000

Consumers stood in long lines to buy snowmobile parts and watch a snocross race (on real snow) at one of the largest single snowmobile dealer events in North America, Nelson’s Speed Shop’s Sno Motion. The event attracted nearly15,000 hard-core sledheads for a weekend of sales, summer snocross and sun north of Greenville, Mich., on Aug. 22–24.
Owner Jack Nelson said he orders a semi-truck load of two-stroke oil from each of the big four snowmobile manufacturers for the event, and he sells literally tens of thousands of spark plugs.
The low price Nelson sets on these and other items combine with a snocross race held on real snow, plus grass drags, to make this a successful open house.
Nelson charges $2 for consumers to enter events, but donates the entry fees to the Michigan Snowmobile Association and other charities. Vendors set up at the event included traction-makers Woody’s and Stud Boy, Micro-Belmont and Heel Clicker.
