EICMA expects more than 700,000
Italian motorcycle officials are gearing up for the world’s largest two-wheel show, the 2003 International Bicycle and Motorcycle Exhibition (EICMA) in September.
The six-day event begins in Milan, Italy, Tuesday, Sept. 16, and winds up Sunday, Sept. 21. Attendance on Tuesday and Wednesday is limited to media and trade. The show is open to consumers the next four days, Thursday through Sunday.
More than 700,000 consumers are expected to stream through the Pavilian of Fiera viewing hundreds of 2004 models from more than 1,500 OEMs and aftermarket suppliers located around the world.
The long list of participating OEMs includes Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, BMW, MV Agusta, Ducati, Aprilia, Piaggio and Triumph. Expected to make major product presentations at the show are Kawasaki, Ducati, Triumph, MV Agusta and Piaggio.
The commitment by non-Italian exhibitors continues to grow. This year, non-Italian companies have taken 38.8% of the available leasing space, up from 29.6% at the last show. The growth has come primarily from American, Taiwanese and Chinese firms.
Working with consumers will be more than 60,000 representatives of the industry. And participants at this 61st show will see loads of cameras, notebooks and laptop computers because there will be more than 2,000 journalists reporting on new products.
The first Milan show was held in 1914.
