Motorcycle sales in 2004 continued strong with sales through June reaching 541,536 units, according to figures compiled by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC). That’s an increase of 8.4% over the same period in 2003.
The highway segment continued to be the largest segment, posting sales of 358,123 units through June, up 12.0% over the same six months in 2003.
The fastest growing segment for the year was scooters, which grew at a rate of 20.1% over the six months. However, unit sales were only 28,059, about 5% of the total group sales.
Off-highway sales dipped 2.1% through June, reaching a total of 142,366 units.
ATVs, however, are not doing as well. After a strong first quarter, sales were flat in the second quarter and YTD sales through June were 357,672 units, up only 0.5% for the year. psb
