Retail Sales Report – May 10, 2004

Total motorcycle sales in March jumped 18.1% over the same month in 2003, according to figures compiled by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC). Unit sales in March were 106,184, up 16,275 units over the same month in 2003.

Total motorcycle sales for the year were 199,936, up 13,637 units, or 7.3% over same three-month period last year.

The on-highway segment was up 24.1% in March at 70,554 units. For the three months this year, on-highway sales were 123,899 units, up 11,922 units or 10.6% over the same period last year.

ATV sales continued strong with a 9.5% gain in March and a 7.8% gain for the first three months of this year. In March, ATV sales were 72,142 units, up 6,266 units or 9.5% over March 2003.

Scooter sales in March were up 6.1%. n
