Geared up for the snowmobile season

karin_web2While I’m personally not ready for the bitter cold the Farmers’ Almanac is predicting in the central part of the country, I am ready to hit some freshly groomed trails in various states, including participating in the 2010 MS Tour in Northern Wisconsin. It’s evident others are getting the snowmobile itch as well.

The 43rd annual Hay Days Grass Drags and Swap Meet held in Forest Lake, Minn., attracted about 32,000-33,000 attendees this year, Steve Seviola, Sno Barons race director, told me after the event. Final numbers are yet to be determined, but attendees guessed there was a higher turnout than last year as the event sold out of one-day wristbands on Saturday.

There were about the same number of exhibitors as previous years, but many were showcasing new products, including STOMPGRIP traction pads from Starting Line Products and the Float 30 Avalanche Airbag from Backcountry Access.

The combo of new products, drag races and good weather contributed to the successful turnout and left many with an optimistic feeling about the upcoming snowmobile season.

Let it snow!
