Honda Boosts Efforts in Asia

Japan’s Honda Motor Co. plans to spend $265 million by 2006 to expand production of motorcycles and scooters in Indonesia, the Philippines, Pakistan and India.
Honda forecasts the region to hold a total market of 18.3 million two-wheelers in 2005, 20.53 million in 2006 and 22.4 million units in 2007.
In the year ended in March 2005, Honda sold 8 million two wheelers in the region. The company expects to sell 12 million two wheelers in the year ending March 2008.
Honda already has a two-wheeler production capacity of 8.6 million units in Asia, including China, India and Indonesia. It expects to have production capacity of 11 million units in the region by 2006, and a capacity of 14 million units in calendar year 2007.
