Honda, Suzuki Lead Japan’s ’05 Cycle Production
Japan’s major motorcycle manufacturers produced 136,340 units in April 2005, up 6.4% or 8,217 units compared with the production of 128,123 units during April 2004, according to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).
Honda produced 45,440 units during the month; Suzuki, 39,443 units; Yamaha, 37,845 units; and Kawasaki, 13,592 units.
Motorcycle exports from Japan during April 2005 totaled 105,213 units, up 0.3% or 309 units compared to the export of 104,904 units recorded for April 2004. Yamaha exported 31,583 units during the month; Suzuki, 31,058 units; Honda, 29,392 units; and Kawasaki, 13,180 units.
Exports to the U.S. during April 2005 totaled 40,652 units, up from the export of 36,629 units during April 2004.
For the period from January 2005 through April 2005, Japan’s OEMs produced 629,979 units, down 0.3% or 1,899 units compared with the production of 631,878 units recorded during the same period of the previous year.
Honda produced 196,459 units during the four-month period in 2005; Suzuki, 177,516 units; Yamaha, 176,832 units; and Kawasaki, 79,006 units.
Exports for the four-month period totaled 496,546 units, down from the export of 512,702 units recorded for the same period in 2004. Yamaha exported 160,400 units during the recent four-month period; Suzuki, 135,742 units; Honda, 124,120 units; and Kawasaki, 76,284 units.
Exports to the U.S. during the four-month period in 2005 totaled 172,174 units, down from the 155,178 units exported stateside during the same period in 2004.
