Brazil Plans for 1.1 Million Cycles in 2005

Motorcycle manufacturers in Brazil are on track to produce 1,146,000 motorized two-wheelers in 2005, up from the 1,057,333 units produced in 2004, says ABRACICLO, the country’s association of motorcycles, scooters and mopeds.
The two main producers of two-wheelers in Brazil are Moto Honda da Amazonia Ltda. and Yamaha. ABRACICLO also counts production, sales and export figures for two other manufacturers, Kasinski and Sundown.
For the January through March 2005 first quarter, Honda produced 225,062 units; Yamaha produced 46,111 units; Sundown manufactured 7,291 units; and Kasinski managed to build 2,082 units.
ABRACICLO says it expects Brazil’s manufacturers to export approximately 170,000 two-wheelers in 2005, up from the 157,400 shipped in 2004.
Exports from Honda and Yamaha during the first three months of 2005 totaled 42,944 units – Honda exported 32,837 units and Yamaha exported 10,107 units. This compares to the export of 22,807 units during the first quarter of 2004, when Honda moved 19,805 units and Yamaha moved 3,002 units.
Established in 1975, Moto Honda da Amazonia Ltda. is the powersports division of Honda South America Ltda., a unit of Japan’s Honda Motor Co. Ltd. established in 2000 to oversea Honda operations in all of South America. Honda Motor Co. has a network of 17 businesses in Brazil.
Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd. first entered Brazil in 1970. The company’s operations there include Yahama Motor Da Amazonia Ltda., a manufacturer and marketer of motorcycles and outboard motors; and Yamaha Motor Do Brasil Ltda., manufacturer of motorcycle parts and marketer of motorcycles, outboard motors, ATVs and generators.
