CPSC Posts Yamaha Recall Reminder
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA, Cypress, Calif., have issued a recall reminder regarding approximately 2,755 PW80 and TT-R90 off-road motorcycles and 850 Grizzly 125 ATVs.
Yamaha first announced a voluntary recall of the 2005 model year units in September 2004 and registered owners were notified directly by mail sent on October 1, 2004. The reminder was made public April 13, 2005.
Yamaha says the rear brake shoe material used on the vehicles could separate due to improper adhesive curing, adversely affecting rear braking performance. The manufacturer received no reports of incidents or injury involving separation of the rear brake shoe material.
Yamaha dealers sold the motorcycles nationwide during 2004 for between $1,249 and $1,699. The ATVs sold nationwide in 2004 for between $3,099 and $3,349. The units were manufactured in Japan.
Consumers who have not already responded to the recall are asked to stop using their off-road motorcycle or ATV immediately and contact an authorized Yamaha dealer to schedule an appointment for free repair.
