BRP Recalls DS650

Bombardier Recreational Products, Inc. (BRP) has recalled approximately 3,430 DS650 ATVs over concerns that some of their axle bearings may break. BRP says approximately 2,127 of the units were sold in the United States.
Model year 2004 and 2005 DS650 ATVs with identification numbers 0003A5A00, 0003A5B00, 0003B5A00, 0003B5B00, 000799700, 000799500, 000771900, and 000771700 are part of this recall. Bombardier dealers sold the ATVs, made in Canada, from March 2004 through March 2005 for between $5,999 and $6,999.
BRP says rear axle bearings on the quads were not greased properly and may break under use. Operators may lose control of the vehicle, threatening injury to the operator. The manufacturer received one report of breakage resulting in loss of control, but the incident did not result in injury.
Bombardier says it has notified consumers directly about this recall. The company asks consumers to contact a Bombardier dealer to schedule an appointment to grease the rear axle bearings.
BRP is based in Quebec, Canada. The company’s U.S. arm, BRP U.S., Inc., is based in Sturtevant, Wis.
