BRP Plans $8.2 Million Renovation

Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP), Valcourt, Quebec, said it plans to spend approximately C$10 million ($8.2 million) to modernize its Valcourt plant. The work will be carried out between May and October 2005.
This move will consolidate productivity gains achieved in 2004 and “confirms our commitment to maintain in Valcourt our assembly facilities for complex, sophisticated or high-volume vehicles,” said Jose Boisjoli, BRP’s president and CEO. “We will change the way we assemble our vehicles and this will enable us to remain competitive at a time when external pressures show no signs of leveling off.”
The work will be carried out over a 150,000-sq.-ft. area and will have no impact on production. The changes include installing new equipment and increasing assembly capacity to bring production schedules in line with demand while implementing more reliable systems and a much more ergonomic assembly line.
