Broward Motorsports: New space, fresh take

Broward Motorsports’ Fort Lauderdale, Florida location was for years locked in a cramped, 20,000-square-foot space, where motorcycles stood handlebar-to-handlebar, and inventory had to be stored off-site.

But with the recent move of the dealership group’s flagship store to a 75,000-square-foot location in a nearby but prominent spot at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Sunrise Boulevard, the dealership has consolidated its inventory and boosted its bottom line.

According to Broward Motorsports owner Sam Nehme, the new dealership is the largest metric dealership in Florida. More than tripling in size, the new space is much more roomy and allows for a unique and spacious showroom setup to showcase the brands it carries: Can-Am, Honda, Kawasaki, Sea-Doo, Suzuki and Yamaha, along with Honda Power Equipment and Scarab Boats.

“Now the way our showroom is set up, we can actually showcase every manufacturer by brand in their own area, give or take 4,000 to 7,000 square feet for each of them, and things are spread out more,” said Nehme.

The dealership is in one of two 75,000 square-foot buildings, which were built after new building ownership acquired the 20-acre lot, a former concrete plant. Nehme had been looking for a larger space for years, and until this location at 2100 W Sunrise Boulevard (Suite 161) opened up, it was a real struggle to find a large piece of land given their proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.

Among the highlights of the space are windows that invite customers to watch technicians work in the service department, and the fact that the extra room allowed the dealership to add new brands such as Vanderhall. As the building was a new construction, Nehme and the Broward Motorsports group was able to layout the space exactly how they wanted, which was a huge selling point for the move. The new location joins sister stores in Hollywood, Palm Beach and Tequesta.

“When you do grow, you’re adding on adding on and when you do all that, your departments don’t flow anymore and it’s all pieced together,” said Nehme. “For us to be able to start with a brand new building and lay it out on paper the exact way we want to see it flow, and make it an experience for our customer, it’s huge. That in itself has made a big difference.”

Broward Motorsports’ new location will allow customers to shop in the comfort of an air-conditioned, 75,000 square foot building, complete with pre-owned units and boats inside as well.

The dealership will soon begin “phase two” of the build out, which includes putting in a café bar and grill for customers. Nehme said that they plan to serve beer and wine as well as food, and have pool tables and comfortable seating to draw customers in and allow them to relax and enjoy the environment.

The new space has only been open a month, but so far Broward Motorsports has already seen an uptick in sales, which Nehme attributes to being able to have more units on-site. Also, the inventory is now all out of the Florida heat and inside an air-conditioned building.

“It’s allowed us to bring all of our boat business inside so you can walk on a dock and get on a boat comfortably — it’s always increased our boat sales. We were also able to bring pre-owned motorcycles indoors and increase the volume of them,” Nehme said.
