California dealership group expands to four stores with acquisition

California-based Del Amo Motorsports, with locations in Redondo Beach, Long Beach and Orange County, is now a four-store operation with its latest acquisition. Powersports Business has learned that Del Amo has acquired South Bay Motorsports in Chula Vista. The dealership’s new name is Del Amo Motorsports of South Bay.

Both groups have been members of the Powersports Business Power 50 in recent years. Del Amo Motorsports has been selected to the Power 50 since the program’s inception in 2013, and South Bay was named to the 2014 Power 50.

South Bay dealer principal David Wiles was excited to make the sale, and will remain owner of North County Yamaha alongside business partners in that store, Jim and Julie Hurkman.

Wiles and his South Bay co-owners bought South Bay Yamaha in 1985. They added Suzuki, Kawasaki and Honda in the late 1980s, and have added KTM, Polaris, BRP, Ducati and Triumph since then.

Del Amo Motorsports owners Scott King and Pablo Veglia were key to the transaction, according to Wiles.

“After all these years, we found a worthy buyer in Del Amo Motorsports. Pablo and Scott are great entrepreneurs. They are keeping most of the staff, and will be injecting new ideas into the business.”
