Ray Price Capital City Bikefest returns in 2016

Downtown Raleigh streets roar to life once again Sept. 23-25, 2016 during the 12th annual Ray Price Capital City Bikefest, presented by GEICO Motorcycle. Festival events will be held outdoors in the heart of downtown and indoors at the Raleigh Convention Center. The range of fun activities include these top favorites for families to enjoy:

Two-Wheel Art – North Carolina’s largest display of unique, custom bikes from builders nationwide compete in an event sanctioned by the International Master Bike Builders Association. Free and open to the public, the show features bike building hobbyists competing with their best designs against pro builders. Enjoy radical designs in vintage and modern motorcycle fabrication, paint and engineering with some of the nation’s most experienced builders. Held Sat., 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sun., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

TattooFest for Charity – The region’s largest collection of tattoo artists under one roof, sponsored by Warlock’s. TattooFest takes place at the Ray Price Motorsports Expo inside the Raleigh Convention Center. It features artists from many area tattoo shops and design contests in 13 categories such as “Best Color Sleeve,” “Most Realistic,” “Best Japanese,” among others. One-half of all money raised will go to Bikefest charities, the USO and U.S. Veterans Corps. Schedule: Fri., Noon to 9 p.m.; Sat., 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sun. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pro Wrestling Church Service – Say what? Yep, get ready to rumble in Raleigh! Legends of the squared circle will bring pro wrestling back downtown thanks to the N.C. Wrestling Assoc. and Freedom Biker Church. Matches will feature Ivan “The Russian Bear” Koloff, “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant, Ricky Morton of the Rock-n-Roll Express, The Barbarian, The Sandman, George South, and NCWA Champion Shane Douglas are all scheduled to appear. This no-cost event takes place Sept. 25 at the Expo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a meet ‘n’ greet with wrestlers until 4:00 p.m.

35 Bands On 4 Stages – September is full of great live music in downtown Raleigh at Capital City Bikefest. The variety of music stands out, with regional and national bands ranging from R’n’B soul funk to female southern rock, from singer-songwriter to honky tonk punk, from eclectic reggae to blues and traditional country. All shows are free at four locations: City Plaza Stage, Outdoor Convention Center Stage (118 W. Cabarrus), Indoor Convention Center Stage and Ray Price Dealership Stage.

Miss Capital City Bikefest – Girls, girls, girls! Enjoy this garage-style Pinup Contest with live music by Tea Cup Gin. A fan favorite, the contest takes place Sept. 24 at 1:30 p.m. inside the convention center, featuring 1940s-50s inspired garage-style hair and fashions, sponsored by Dames, Planes & Automobiles Magazine.

“Ray Price Capital City Bikefest is a family friendly festival that introduces people to the wonderfully diverse culture of motorcycling,” said Mark Hendrix, general manager of Ray Price, Inc. “We’re honoring the legacy of our founder Ray Price by spreading his passion to the community.”

Along with the diversity of riders, friendship and camaraderie that comes with being the largest bike rally in the state, visitors to Capital City Bikefest won’t want to miss the stunt shows all weekend. Triumph Motorcycles will showcase their internationally recognized Empire Freestyle Team. Other no-cost indoor events include drift trike exhibitions, fashion shows and appearances by biker celebrity Michele Smith, host of Speed Channel’s “American Thunder.”

About the 12th Ray Price Capital City Bikefest, presented by GEICO Motorcycle Capital City Bikefest was formed in 2005 in partnership with the City of Raleigh to become North Carolina’s first downtown motorcycle rally.
