Moose Racing ADV apparel lines growing

Adventure touring riders receptive to price, quality

The adventure touring segment has played a part in the growth of many apparel companies, and Moose Racing is no exception. Over the past four years, Moose has built up a presence in the segment by offering a full line of parts, garments and accessories.

“Overall, it’s a fairly new market for us,” said Moose Racing brand manager Dan Fitch. “But it’s definitely picking up momentum. The products that we are designing are high-performance products at a more affordable price.”

Moose Racing carries three different lines of outerwear: the ADV1, Expedition and XCR. “For the adventure touring marketing, we have the ADV1, which is for the higher-end customer that’s looking for more performance, and the Expedition series is more entry-level. We have two different price points,” Fitch said.

The ADV1 outerwear includes a jacket, which retails starting at $599.95, and pants, which begin at $499.95. The ADV1 line is constructed from a Sympatex-laminated nylon chassis, making it durable, waterproof and breathable. The Expedition jacket is priced at $349.95, while the pants have a MSRP of $325.

Fitch says some of the products, including the ADV1 and Expedition outerwear, went through updates to transition from being off-road products to better equipped for the adventure touring rider. The ADV1 and Expedition apparel now feature D30 VIPER and EVO armor in the shoulders, elbows and back for increased protection.

The XCR outwear, with its $249.95 jacket and $219.95 pants, is the most affordable of the three options, but does not include the EXO or D30 VIPER armor. Fitch says the XCR was intended for the aggressive off-road rider, but has now seen crossover with snow bike riders as well.

“Some of our professional racers started getting into the snow bikes,” Fitch said. “They wanted something so that they could move around on the bikes, but they still needed the protection against the elements.” Seven intake and exhaust vents help to regulate the rider’s body temperature on the XCR jacket, giving each rider extra protection but not discomfort.

Plans to promote Moose Racing’s offerings include working with dealers and educating customers about the technical advancements of these new products. “We’re trying to get more in-depth information to the consumers and get more of both consumers and dealers to ride in the product,” Fitch added.

“Our goal has always been to provide a top-quality product at an affordable price,” he said. “When I ask consumers, and they talk about Moose, they’re excited about it. When I ask what attracts them to it, it’s price and quality.”

As interest grows in the adventure touring market, Moose Racing’s products are becoming more popular each year.

“People have now tested the water a little bit as far as adventure bikes,” Fitch said. “It appeals to them more, so as people get in tune to that, we’re starting to see more and more people switching to the product.”
