Keener honored by national group

Powersports Business managing editor Liz Keener was named one of 20 national finalists for the Association of Business Information & Media Companies | Software & Information Industry Association Emerging Leader Awards, sponsored by the organization’s Women’s Leadership & Networking Council.

In November, Keener attended the organization’s luncheon in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., that honored the finalists, in addition to attending training seminars as part of the summit.

The award program honors the most impactful of the under-35 crowd in various facets of publishing. Keener was nominated based on her strong track record at PSB, and two industry executives who have worked with Keener on different occasions both provided letters of recommendation.

While at the event, Keener was selected as a founding member of the Emerging Leaders Collective, a newly launched initiative formed by Connectiv, the new name of the aforementioned association that hosted the event.

At work or play, PSB managing editor Liz Keener thrives in powersports.

“The Powersports Business brand continues to benefit from Liz’s creativity and energy, and we’re proud that a national organization has taken note of her accomplishments,” PSB editor in chief Dave McMahon said. “We’re glad she’s on our team and look forward to her contributions in the coming years.”

Staying on the November awards path, McMahon earned a Bronze Award at the Minnesota Magazine & Publishing Association’s Publishing Excellence Awards, held at Aria in Minneapolis. He won for Editorial: Editor’s or Publisher’s Editorial or Letter to the Readers, Business/Trade Under 30,000 Circulation. He won for “A Hometown Journey Finds Yamaha Growing.”

Judging comments were as follows: “Author takes advantage of what appears like long-established moto-cred to continue to build a personal relationship — and thus more credibility — with readers, through personal memories. Very engaging set up for the highly informative discussion of the Yamaha factory.”

Keener served as co-chair of the 300-person event itself, but, alas, was unable to attend as it was the same night she was being honored by Connectiv.

Here’s a look at the 2015 MMPA awards secured by PSB sister powersports publications:

Rider — Bronze, Editorial: Profile; Bronze , General: Overall Excellence.

Thunder Press — Gold, Editorial: Editor’s Letter;

Snow Goer — Bronze, Editorial: Feature.
