Exports, production down for Big 4 in November
Overall motorcycle production of Japanese motorcycles in November 2015 was recorded at 46,453 units. In comparison to the 52,711 units produced in the same month of 2014, production decreased by 11.9 percent, or 6,258 units. Motorcycle production has continued to decrease for 13 consecutive months, according to data from the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).
Production was down in three of the four motorcycle classes in November. The 126-250cc class saw that largest percentage decrease, down 1,034 units, at 14.9 percent and the over 250cc class also decreased by 14 percent, or 4,992 units. The 50cc & under class saw a slight decrease of 4 percent, or 316 units. The 51-125cc class, the only class to increase its production, was up 84 units (3.6 percent).
Overall motorcycle exports in November 2015 were recorded as 33,080 units. Compared with the 42,935 units total recorded for the same month of the previous year, this is a decrease of 9,855 units or 23 percent, and an export decrease on the same month of the previous year for six consecutive months.
Motorcycle exports mirrored production, with the only class to increase also being the 51-125cc class, up 454 units or 22.4 percent. The over 250cc class was down 27.7 percent, or 9,808 units, while the 50cc & under class experienced a decrease of 4.5 percent, or 26 units. The 126-250cc class was also down 9.6 percent, or 9.6 percent.
