Japanese OEMs decrease August production

Overall motorcycle production of Japanese motorcycles in August 2015 was recorded as 36,598 units. Compared with the 38,074 units total recorded for the same month of the previous year, there is a decrease of 1,476 units or 3.9 percent. Motorcycle production has seen a decrease for 10 consecutive months, according to data from the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

Production was down in most segments in August. The 50cc and under class was down 24.4 percent to 4,061 units. The 51-125cc class was down 5.9 percent, or 176 units. The over 250cc class was down 1,263 units, or 5.6 percent. The 126-250cc class was the only class to increase production, with a 1,273-unit increase, or 17.4 percent.

Motorcycle exports experienced a decrease in each segment, except one. The 50cc and under class was down 11.7 percent to 785 units. The 51-125cc class decreased 23 percent, or 741 units, and the over 250cc class exported 18,833 units, which was down 6.1 percent from the previous year. The 126-150cc class was the only class to experience an increase in units, up 1,345 units or 23.7 percent to 7,015 units.

Overall motorcycle export in August was recorded as 29,117 units. In comparison to August 2014, total exports decreased 2.4 percent.
