Gibbs Quadski races an Alfa Romeo on BBC’s Top Gear

Gibbs Sports Amphibians has announced its Quadski amphibious ATV/PWC will appear on BBC’s “Top Gear” TV show.

In Episode 2 of Season 21, “Top Gear” co-host Jeremy Clarkson races the Quadski against fellow co-host Richard Hammond, who drives an Alfa Romeo 4C the same distance at Lake Como in Italy. The Alfa Romeo is a lightweight rear-wheel-drive sports car with a 237-hp turbocharged engine, while the Quadski pumps out 140 hp from its BMW Motorrad engine. Clarkson made it to the finish line first by taking the Quadski on the lake, while Hammond is slowed by narrow winding roads around the lake, however, Clarkson conceded the victory to Hammond in the sake of fairness.

BBC’s “Top Gear” has an audience of more than 340 million worldwide. Gibbs cooperated with the show to earn increased exposure for its Quadski, Gibbs’ Graham Jenkins, sales and marketing, told Powersports Business in Detroit on Wednesday.

“We’re delighted that the Quadski was given the chance to demonstrate its capabilities on Top Gear,” said Neil Jenkins, chairman of Gibbs Technologies Ltd. “The race was the perfect stage to showcase what personal sports amphibians are all about, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the experience turns Clarkson into a Quadski owner!”

The episode airs on BBC America at 8:30 p.m. EST on Monday, Feb. 17.
