Dealers celebrate veterans

Many dealers offer current and former military members discounts and unique opportunities throughout the year, but many are also giving those men and women special recognition this month to honor Veterans Day, which is held next Monday, Nov. 11.

The following is a list of dealership events that are designed to honor veterans:

5th Annual Turkey Bowl for Illinois Veterans at Wild Fire Harley-Davidson in Villa Park, Ill.
11 a.m. Saturday
Toss a frozen bird at some pins for a chance to win great prizes and support charity at the same time. Bring a non-perishable item to the dealership before Saturday to donate to the Illinois Veterans Foundation and add your name to the tournament. Also included will be an RC racing experience, free snacks and drinks.

16th Annual Veterans Day Ride at Gail’s Harley-Davidson in Grandview, Mo.
11:30 a.m. Saturday
Tom Allen will lead the ride from Gail’s Harley-Davidson to The Hero Show — A Salute to Our Veterans at the KC Power & Light District. The show will include a free concert with Clay Walker and Travis Marvin. Private parking is available at the event, and ride pins will be provided to all riders. Participants are encouraged to dress their bikes and show their patriotism. Registration is free, and it begins at 11:30 a.m., with the ride leaving the dealership at 12:30 p.m.

Military Appreciation Day at Myers-Duren Harley-Davidson in Tusla, Okla.
Saturday
As part of the Harley’s Heroes Tour, local military veterans will receive free counseling and assistance with their government benefits from Disabled American Veterans from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Free food and drinks from Full Moon Café for all customers from noon to 3 p.m. The dealership says thank you to veterans and active duty military by offering 20 percent off Harley-Davidson licensed products.

Gold Star Family Ride to Salute Veteran’s Day at Chicago Harley-Davidson in Glenview, Ill.
9 a.m. Saturday
Free donuts at registration from 9-10:30 a.m. Kickstands up at 10:30 a.m. with a ride ending at Rocky Vanders Bar & Grill. Free food and drink specials at Rocky Vanders. Registration is $10 per bike or $20 for a double. All proceeds benefit Tribute to the Troops, which is dedicated to preserving the memory of military members who have lost their lives in the line of duty. 

Cape Cod Harley-Davidson Military Appreciation Party
9:30 a.m. Saturday
The party starts at 9:30 a.m. with free coffee and donuts. At 11:30 a.m., the grill is fired up for free hot dots, and a free concert by Aerochix follows at noon. The dealership is also teaming up with Cape Cod Cares for the Troops by collecting items for Christmas care packages for the troops.

Heroes Appreciation Day at Rommel Harley-Davidson in New Castle, Del.
Saturday
Veteran, military and first responder heroes are invited to take 15 percent off aftermarket parts and licensed apparel. Heroes also receive a discounted lunch at the dealership.

SF Veterans Day Parade and Veterans Appreciation Run at Dudley Perkins Harley-Davidson in South San Francisco
Sunday, Nov. 10 and Saturday, Nov. 16
On Sunday, riders gather at 9 a.m. at Dudley Perkins to leave for the SF Veterans Day Parade, which begins at 11 a.m. Then on Nov. 16, the dealership hosts a Veterans Appreciation Run to Christmas in November at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Menlo Park. All brands of motorcycles and cars are welcome on the run, which will conclude in a bike and hot rod show for veterans. The American Legion Post 105 will provide a free BBQ lunch, and riders are encouraged to bring an ornament, gift card, phone card or stamps to donate.

Veteran’s Day at Milwaukee Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee
4-7 p.m. Monday
All active and retired military personnel will be treated to free Johnsonville brats and Lakefront beer. Exclusive military benefits offered, including 20 percent off Harley-Davidson licensed product and free Ride Entertainment care packages for anyone who shows proof of service. Also, civilians are encouraged to stop by to thank the military members and sign the Harley-Davidson flag. The dealership also hosted Operation Supply Drop Oct. 26-Nov. 2 during which care packages were collected for the troops, with each person who participated eligible to win a $100 Milwaukee Harley-Davidson gift card.

Military Appreciation Party at Snake Harley-Davidson in Twin Falls, Idaho
10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23
To thank military members and their families, the dealership will have a raffle, free lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., a goodie table and Wilbur the balloon animal maker. During the month of November, customers can also sign the dealership’s poster and receive a commemorative sticker while supplies last.
