Suzuki recaps big week at AIMExpo in Orlando

Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (SMAI) began its 51st year in America in earnest at the inaugural AIMExpo at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center the week of October 17. Beginning with a new model presentation and celebration with a few hundred dealers and invited media, Suzuki officially unveiled the 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ABS, the Suzuki Burgman 200 ABS, and its complete line of motorcycles, scooters and ATVs.

The 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ABS is completely updated with a larger, 1037cc fuel-injected engine and Suzuki’s first traction-control system. The highly anticipated adventure motorcycle will be in Suzuki dealerships this spring, and an “Adventure” model will come with purpose-built hard luggage. The new Burgman 200 ABS is an entry-level scooter complete with advanced Suzuki features such as fuel injection and ABS.

Suzuki also showed dealers and consumers the 2014 Suzuki Hayabusa 50th Anniversary Edition model with a customer Red/Black paint design, and the Suzuki GSX-R1000 SE. Suzuki will build just 100 GSX-R1000 SE, with a limited quantity of 50 models available to U.S. consumers – in celebration of Suzuki’s 50 years in America.

To begin the week, Suzuki organizing a moto-journalist test ride on the Suzuki GW250, which SMAI announced would be priced at $3,999. Test riders from Motorcycle-USA.com called the GW250 “an inviting user-friendly platform to coax new riders into the Suzuki ranks.” The 250cc GW250 features Suzuki fuel injection, good selection of accessories and a unique style that will appeal to a wide range of motorcycle riders.

While the company’s 10,000-square-foot product display at the convention center showcased all of Suzuki’s vehicles, as well as parts and accessories, Suzuki dealers and consumers enjoyed demo rides on a variety of Suzuki motorcycles, scooters and ATVs at the AIMExpo Outdoors display.

The ATV demonstration area was exceedingly popular throughout the event, with hundreds of registered demo riders using the opportunity to ride multiple Suzuki ATVs. A well-designed demo track let riders enjoy a short but rigorous test of Suzuki KingQuad ATVs. Meanwhile, hundreds of streetbike shoppers took demo riders through the suburban streets surrounding the convention center on a range of Suzuki motorcycles.

“This event gave us a great opportunity to let dealers, consumers and journalists experience Suzuki motorcycles, scooters and ATVs,” says Larry Vandiver, Vice President for SMAI. “We know that providing a chance to ride a Suzuki is often all that’s needed to convince people of the quality of the Suzuki experience.”

Suzuki concluded the week in Orlando by celebrating the victorious ride of Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing’s James Stewart who won the 2013 Monster Energy Cup Supercross race in Las Vegas, Saturday, Oct. 20. Stewart won two of the evening’s three motos on his Suzuki RM-Z450 to earn the victory cup.

The company now takes its 2014 show on the road for the Progressive International Motorcycle Show circuit. This consumer-focused powersports show criss-crosses the nation and stops in 12 major markets to show new riders and veteran owners all the new and returning Suzuki vehicles.
