Sales of Suzuki motorcycles drop in first nine months of fiscal year

Net sales of Suzuki motorcycles decreased 13.5 percent to ¥163.3 billion ($1.7 billion) during the company’s first nine months of it’s 2012 fiscal year.

North American motorcycle net sales during the period saw a 6 percent dip to 32,000 units or ¥23.9 billion ($254 million).

Suzuki’s net sales of marine and power products also dropped, with a 5.8 percent decrease over the year-ago period to ¥33.0 billion ($350 million). In North America, net sales of marine and power products were down 4 percent to ¥9.4 million ($99,777).

Despite this, the company’s total consolidated net sales for the first nine months increased 1.4 percent to ¥1.8 trillion ($19.1 billion). Net income increased 19.2 percent to ¥48.4 billion ($514 million), though ¥15.5 billion ($165 million) was allocated for provision for loss on liquidation of subsidiaries and affiliates as an extraordinary loss. American Suzuki filed bankruptcy during the reporting period, while exiting the automotive segment and realigning its powersports business.
