BMW reports flat motorcycle sales volume in Q3

Despite flat motorcycle sales volume in the third quarter of 2012, BMW Group reported increased revenues and net profit.

Revenues for the three month period running July to September were up 13.7 percent to €18.8 billion. Net profit rose 16 percent to €1.3 billion.

“We have had a good third quarter, setting new sales volume, revenues and earnings records in the face of a challenging market environment. We expect further sales volume growth for the fourth quarter, even though it is clear that we — and indeed the sector as a whole — are likely to be confronted with adverse business conditions,” said Norbert Reithofer, the Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.

Q3 motorcycle sales were relatively flat, up only 14 units to 28,876. Revenues for the segment were up 7.2 percent to €358 million. For the first nine months of 2012, sales volumes were up 0.4 percent to 93,300 units, and revenues increased 3 percent to €1.2 billion.
