Ducati unveils 2013 lineup at Intermot

Ducati unveiled its 2013 lineup today at the Intermot show in Cologne, Germany. Here’s a look at the models from a Ducati news release:

2013 DUCATI STREETFIGHTER

The confident and urban-friendly Streetfighter 848 lines up alongside the supreme firepower of the Streetfighter S to present two stylish and exciting, high-performance challengers from this unique naked family.

The Streetfighter 848 delivers pure motorcycle enjoyment with the sophisticated combination of a brilliantly engineered 848 Testastretta 11° engine and the enhanced geometry of a frame that ensures optimum agility with confidence-inspiring “feel.” With user-friendliness enriched by a smooth and flexible power delivery, revised ergonomics and DTC, Ducati’s unique fighter style is set to create more excitement than ever.

The Streetfighter S takes its 155hp 1098 Superbike soul and mixes fighter attitude with naked sophistication to create a cocktail of Desmo adrenaline. Stripped to the bare essentials, its race technology, skeletal 368lb (167kg) styling, and 85lb-ft (11.7kgm) of torque takes Ducati’s big naked concept to the very top of the fighter food chain.

The Ducati Streetfighter S scored a round one knockout when it entered the ring for the first time at the Milan show back in November 2008. Its supreme elegance stole the ‘Most Beautiful Bike’ award and raised the bar for extreme nakeds. Its asphalt-ripping reputation became the desire of sport naked connoisseurs throughout the world and the Streetfighter 848 further strengthens that desire with everyday accessibility.

The 848 fighter is dressed in red with a red frame for Ducati traditionalists, while the stunning dark stealth scheme underlines the Streetfighter’s aggressive image and yellow offers a bold and stylish third option, both with frames finished in racing black. The Streetfighter S comes to the fight in Ducati red and sophisticated “race titanium matte,” both schemes with red frames and black wheels.

2013 DUCATI SUPERBIKE

The 2013 Ducati Superbike family introduces arctic white versions of the award-winning 1199 Panigale and 1199 Panigale S alongside the signature Ducati red, while the 1199 Panigale S Tricolore continues proudly as the flagship of the family. The highly successful 848EVO is available in the traditional colors of Ducati red (country specific) with red frame and black wheels, dark stealth (country specific) with racing black frame and black wheels and arctic white (country specific) with red frame and red wheels. The exclusive 848EVO Corse Special Edition, with a new-for-2013, lightweight, aluminum fuel tank, gets dressed in the stunning new Ducati Corse Test Team livery of matte black and matte grey.

The 848EVO is Ducati’s most impressive mid-range Superbike ever, and provides an exciting way to enter the world of Ducati Superbikes. 2013 sees the 848EVO Corse Special Edition equipped with a new aluminum fuel tank and Ducati Test Team color scheme to go with the existing Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Quick Shift, Öhlins rear suspension and 330mm brake discs specification. The “EVO” treatment applied to the 848 enabled 140hp (103kW) and a torque of 72.3lb-ft (98Nm) for razorsharp and easy-to-use power delivery, while the combination of the 848’s legendary 167kg (368lb) — on the Corse Special Edition — dry weight chassis set-up and planet-stopping Brembo Monobloc brakes provides unthinkable braking performances most can only dream of.

Iconic features from World Championship-winning machines are all part of the 848’s DNA and, in constant pursuit of perfection, Ducati engineers enhanced specification to deliver impressive performance, whether racing through track-day competition or just riding through mid-town traffic.

The 848EVO is powered by a liquid cooled, L-Twin, Desmodromic engine producing 140hp (103kW) @ 10,500rpm and a high-accelerating 72.3lb-ft (10kgm) of torque @ 9,750rpm. The 94mm x 61.2mm bore and stroke breathes through 4 valves per cylinder fed by revised inlet port shapes and racing-style elliptical throttle bodies, which have an equivalent diameter of 60mm. The EVO’s piston crown and combustion chamber shape improves burn efficiency, while the 13.2:1 compression ratio and performance-driven camshafts provide 13mm of valve-lift and 257° of inlet duration.

Electronically injected and ignited by Marelli, the super-efficient power unit then exhausts through a lightweight 2-1-2 system equipped with a catalytic converter and to twin lambda probes for smooth mapping and Euro3 conformity. Terminating in twin under-seat silencers, the system delivers that unmistakable signature sound of the Desmo 90° L-Twin.

SUPERBIKE 1199 PANIGALE

The award-winning 1199 Panigale starts to roll into 2013 in standard configuration with the sensational new arctic white color scheme added to the original Ducati red. The model offers optional ABS and is equipped with Marzocchi’s 50mm lightweight aluminum front forks, Sachs rear suspension and steering damper and with DTC, DQS, EBC and RbW combined into the Ducati Riding Modes.

The 1199 Panigale S also adopts the new arctic white color scheme in addition to the original Ducati red, is also available with optional ABS and comes equipped with Öhlins electronic 43mm front forks with adjustable Öhlins steering damper and an Öhlins electronic TTX suspension unit on the rear. In addition, the “S” model rolls on super lightweight forged and machined Marchesini wheels, has a carbon fiber front mudguard and full LED lighting. The “S” model is supplied also with an “Aero kit,” which consists of two lateral attachments for the top section of the fairing, designed to further enhance the machine’s aerodynamic penetration and reduce its drag coefficient. The 1199 Panigale S adds DES to the full electronics firepower of ABS (optional) DTC, DQS, EBC and RbW to provide the Ducati Riding Modes.

The special 1199 Panigale S Tricolore version celebrates the new generation Superbike, is fitted with ABS as standard and sports the proud Italian colors of red, white and green. The distinctive model carries the same equipment as the “S” version with the addition of the new generation DDA+ with special GPS lap time function as well as a titanium racing muffler kit (country specific) by Ducati Performance.

2013 DUCATI DIAVEL

The Ducati Diavel was first introduced to an excited public at the 2010 Milan International Motorcycle Show and has since amazed motorcyclists the world over, collecting awards along the way to become one of Ducati’s most desired models. The innovative machine combines decades of twin-cylinder heritage and Italian style and rolls into 2013 with an exciting lineup that sees the flagship Diavel Carbon now exclusively in carbon red and the standard Diavel in three stunning new color versions: The Diavel Dark in matte black with black-finished componentry and two “street-sport” schemes that introduce metallic blue or Ducati red with stylish white stripes, white wheels and special defining features.

Custom shop beauty, state-of-the-art technology, innovative design and extraordinary riding pleasure are masterfully blended into the Diavel, a motorcycle that has now set a new benchmark in the sport cruiser segment, just reward for the innovative designers and engineers that created it.

Built to have a commanding presence, though lightweight and agile like all Ducatis, the Diavel takes the man-motorcycle relationship to the next level in absolute comfort. For connoisseurs of technology, ABS, Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Riding Modes deliver a confidence-inspiring sophistication while stunning looks, 162hp and 205kg (452lb) — Diavel Carbon version — of authentic Ducati performance drives a comfortable sport lifestyle that could only be dreamt of before.

Merging the worlds of power and style has never been achieved with such convincing precision. A specially engineered 240 section rear tire combined with famous Ducati chassis technology serves up mind-blowing handling and lean angles which defy the laws of physics, whether carving through curves on your favorite road or just riding out for a night on the town.

The Diavel project was born when Ducati designers applied their wish-list of bike “basic instincts” to a blank canvas. With a “what if?” approach to creating a dream bike, they sketched inspiring shapes which became a lower and longer motorcycle.

“The challenge of building a muscular silhouette over a pure-bred competition motor had to be met with determination and a delicate touch, and the result is a frontal area that looks like a power athlete on the starting blocks,” explained the team at Ducati Design responsible for the project. “With the front wheel kept close to the Diavel’s body and using the short tail of a sport bike, we were able to blend this muscular design with a chassis that matched.”

If the stance of a Streetfigher is that of “anger,” the stance of the Diavel is of readiness, dominance, and confidence bordering on superiority. With lateral radiators adding muscle to its broad “shoulders,” which then taper down across the engine and into the belly-fairing with oil cooler, the athlete took shape.

A massive 240 section rear tire was a perfect example of how Diavel designers used a no-compromise attitude when applying their wish list of features. The sheer width of rubber communicates so much power and style that the R&D team vowed to find a way to make it handle — even if they knew the image would send a seismic shock through the industry.

Ducati’s philosophy for innovation has always been to push the boundaries of design in the name of exciting motorcycles. Sometimes “gut feelings” are what count, and having the strength to commit to them shows the kind of bravery that has guided Ducati to World Championships. The Diavel is a true Ducati, born from a passion for motorcycling and designed to deliver authentic Ducati performance in every respect.

The Diavel’s twin-level seat is wide, comfortable and beautifully shaped to fit the flowing lines of the machine and at 770mm (30.3in), has one of the lowest seat heights in the Ducati range. That low seating position, in addition to a low slung chassis set-up that weighs in at just 210kg (463lb) — 205kg (452lb) for the Diavel Carbon — enables the rider to get both feet on the ground for a sure-footed and confident stance. The seat also comes with a beautifully shaped and easily removable single seat cover, which is formed in carbon fibre on the Diavel Carbon.
