KTM finishes 1-2 at Pikes Peak International Hillclimb (Video)

KTM Motorsports congratulates Chris Fillmore on a historic performance at Sunday’s 95th running of the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In his rookie attempt, Fillmore put together a record-breaking run to capture the overall victory in the motorcycle division, while his KTM-mounted teammate Rennie Scaysbrook finished a close second to give the orange brand an impressive 1-2 sweep with the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R.

Fillmore, KTM North America’s in-house road racer, completed the 12.42-mile course in 9.49.265, which was good enough to top the previous record of 9:52.819 held by Carlin Dunne (2013). Scaysbrook, Cycle News Road Test Editor and road racing enthusiast, completed his run in 9:57.712, which landed him a No. three position behind Dunne in the all-time motorcycle record book at Pikes Peak.

Fillmore said: “I set out with the goal of trying to break the record this year and I wanted to do it as a rookie, so to achieve this is something really special. The KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R ran perfectly but I did have a scary moment coming into the 19-mile corner when the bike went sideways at 120 mph near the side of the cliff. Luckily I was able to keep it under control but it was definitely a nerve-racking moment and I’m happy to have finished safely and with the win!”

Scaysbrook said: “This year I just wanted to have a clean run and get the finish, whatever happened after that wasn’t really up to me. I knew Chris would be extremely fast and I threw down as hard as I could when the time came, but it wasn’t enough and I’m very pleased to see Chris take the victory for KTM. I wanted to break the nine-minute barrier and to get the third fastest motorcycle time ever up the mountain in something to be happy about.”

Both riders performed aboard the 2017 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, outfitted with a host of KTM PowerParts that can be purchased through any authorized KTM dealer. The team would like to give a special thanks to the sponsors who supported their efforts this year: WP Suspension, Air Tech, Rottweiler Performance, Superlite Sprockets and Super B Lithium Batteries.
