Report: Pentagon develops electric bike with Alta

Popular Science reported that the Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is funding the development of an electric dirt bike with Alta Motors and Logos Technologies.

The bike, known as SilentHawk, will have the capability to recharge its own batteries and other electronic devices when running on fuel. The first prototype weighs 350 pounds and features a 55-decibel quiet engine.

Popular Science explains some of the benefits of the SilentHawk bike: “As designed, one modification of the SilentHawk uses a hybrid engine, so it can run on gas most of the time, and on electricity when it needs to be quiet. And it’s not limited to gas: It’s can run on diesel, as well as JP5 and JP8 jet fuels, so that the special forces using it in the field can power it with whatever fuel they might encounter.”
