Dealer leases motorcycles to fire department (video)

Emerald Coast Harley-Davidson is leasing two motorcycles to the Fort Walton Beach Fire Department for $1 a piece each year, according to WEARTV.com.

The RIDER team (Rapid Incident Deployment and Early Response) “will focus on city events where crowds and congestion could slow traditional emergency vehicles.” The fire department’s chief Ken Perkins commented, “When you get pedestrian traffic and vehicle traffic that’s just log-jammed down there, it’s almost impossible to make a quick response.”

The fire department isn’t finding it difficult to staff the RIDER team, as Perkins added that many of the firefighters are also motorcyclists. The RIDER rollout ceremony will take place Thursday, June 2 at 2p.m. at the Fort Walton Beach Fire Department on Hollywood Boulevard and is open to the public.
