Study finds Millennials’ “indifferent attitude” about cars

The University of Michigan’s Transportation Research Institute released a study detailing that the number of Millennials who have a driver’s license is down more than 15 percent, according to an article in USA Today.

“The exact figure — 76.7 percent — represented a sharp decline from 79.7 percent in 2011, 82 percent in 2008 and 91.8 percent in 1983…Quite simply cars are becoming less important and less accessible to Millennials.”

While this decline in automobile interest is partly due to an increase in ride-sharing services and general indifference towards cars, it provides an opportunity for powersports dealers to market to Millennials.

  1. The question is, how to promote to young adults. How do we get them excited about the lower cost, the fun, new safety equipment so they are encouraged to visit motorcycle dealerships. It is scary how old our customer base is when visiting shows and dealerships.
