CARB green lights SEMA Lab for emissions testing

News release

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) today issued a letter recognizing the SEMA Emissions Compliance Center as a Certification Ready Automotive Emissions Testing Laboratory, making it possible for SEMA to assist members in all aspects of securing CARB and federal EPA emissions compliance.

“The SEMA Emissions Compliance Center makes SEMA Members the priority customer, offering SEMA Member Benefit pricing and testing so our manufacturers can secure emissions compliance easily, quickly and affordably,” said Mike Spagnola, SEMA VP of OEM Relations and Product Development. “We’re excited to receive the CARB recognition letter. The SEMA Emissions Compliance Center can now provide fully comprehensive services and assist members with the emissions certification process from start to finish.”

Emissions testing is an important part of the Executive Order (EO) development process for those products that may impact the emissions from a vehicle. The federal Clean Air Act and the California Vehicle Code both include prohibitions against making alterations that may increase emissions. The CARB E.O. process satisfies the legal requirements for aftermarket products in demonstrating both California and EPA emissions compliance.

Very few Emissions Labs include the high-tech tools featured in the SEMA Garage. Among the tools are: a 48” AVL-Zöllner 2WD emissions testing chassis dynamometer; AVL iGEM CVS system, AVL i60 AMA Emissions bench with HC, NOx, CO, CO2 and CH4 analyzers and AVL iGEM Vehicle software suite for test cell integration and control.

Additionally, the SEMA Emissions Compliance Center employs full-time staffing to walk members through the E.O. application and testing sequence, as well as assist in communication with CARB throughout the process.

The SEMA Garage opened in 2013 and was recently renovated to include state-of-the-art equipment designed to help manufacturers develop products quickly, easily, and cost-effectively.

Services offered at the SEMA Garage include vehicle lifts, a 3D scanner, 3D printer, a full size vehicle Photo Studio and a Training Facility that includes high-tech AV equipment.

Located in Diamond Bar, CA, adjacent to SEMA Headquarters, the SEMA Garage services are available to all SEMA Members.
