More than 25,000 motorcycles affected by OEM recalls
Honda
American Honda Motor Co. has issued a recall on potentially 14,575 units due to hazards caused by a deformed and separated fuel level sensor float arm. In the event that this arm becomes deformed from exposure to environmental and roadway conditions, the float arm can separate from the fuel level sensor body. The separation can cause inaccurate fuel meter information and electric shortage, increasing the risk of a crash.
The affected models include certain model year 2013-2015 Honda CBR500 motorcycles manufactured January 24, 2013 to May 14, 2015 and 2013-2015 CB500 motorcycles manufactured January 31, 2013 to May 16, 2015.
Honda will work to notify owners of affected units and dealers will replace the fuel sensor assembly free of charge. Owners may also contact Honda customer service at 1-310-783-2000. Honda’s number for this recall is JT1.
Harley-Davidson
Harley-Davidson Motor Company has issued a recall for two of its motorcycles models due to fuel pump problems. The fuel pump modules on the motorcycles have a poor seal at the fuel pump inlet. This poor seal can cause an interruption to fuel supply, which could cause abrupt restoration of power and loss of control leading to a heightened crash risk.
Approximately 10,580 units could potentially be affected by this recall. Affected models include 2015 XG500 motorcycles manufactured January 20, 2014 to June 24, 2015, and XG700 motorcycles manufactured May 12, 2014 to June 24, 215.
Harley-Davidson will notify owners and dealers will install a new fuel pump assembly free of charge. Owners of affected models may also contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-414-343-4056. The recall is expected to begin at the end of August 2015. Harley-Davidson’s number for this recall is 0167.
