Founder of Harley-Davidson dealership in Florida dies
John Malik Sr., founder of Gator Harley-Davidson and Stormy Hill Harley-Davidson in Florida, died Sunday at the age of 82.
After working with snowmobiles, ATVs, PWC and body shops in the Chicago area, Malik Sr. and his wife Arlene bought a Leesburg, Fla., dealership in 1993, turning it into Gator Harley-Davidson. Then in 2002, they added Stormy Hill Harley-Davidson in Clermont, Fla., to their roster, reported the Daily Commercial in Leesburg. Malik Sr. retired in 2012, with his son John Malik Jr. taking ownership of Gator H-D, and his daughter Janice Malik becoming principal of Stormy Hill.
Malik Sr. was wheelchair-bound after suffering a stroke 16 years ago. On March 18, he was hospitalized after falling out of his chair and hitting his head on concrete. In the hospital, he had another stroke. A public service will be held April 9 in Mount Dora.
