BMW recalls 50,000 motorcycles

BMW of North America, LLC has announced the recall of 50,184 motorcycles because of a fuel pump flange issue.

The recall affects 2005-11 R-model, 2005-12 K-model, 2010-11 S 1000 and 2006-10 HP2 bikes. The fuel pump flange (and the auxiliary fuel pump flange if equipped) on those bikes could crack and leak fuel, which in the presence of an ignition source may result in fire. BMW will notify owners of the affected bikes, and dealers will reinforce the flange or replace the pump as necessary. The recall is expected to begin in February.
